MADE IN YORKSHIRE:
ROLLEM PRODUCTIONS GET GREEN LIGHT ON BBC FILMS
Leeds Production Company, Rollem Productions, has been given the green light on two 90 minute films for the BBC.
The films are adaptations of Kay Mellor's stage play “A Passionate Woman” that tells Betty’s story of an apparent unhappy marriage and an early love affair that literally comes back to haunt her. The first of the two will launch the Women's Season on BBC1 next Easter.
“I am delighted to be given the go ahead for these projects,” says Kay. “The play has been a great success all over the world and to make the adaptation to film is exciting for me as a writer and for Rollem as producers.”
A Passionate Woman started life at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in 1992 and went on to receive rave reviews in the West End and complete two national tours. It continues to tour internationally – in fact since 1996 it has performed on stage somewhere in the world every week. It's now set to come back home to its roots as Rollem has announced both films will be shot only in Yorkshire. Filming is due to start in September.
“It's no secret I'm a champion of Leeds and its surroundings,” Kay continues. “So to be able to bring two huge projects here, to show us off to the to the rest of the country, to shout about how great we are means a lot to me.”
